*This course runs August 11th - November 16th, 2025*

A collaboration between PATH Intl. and Strides to Success, this Fundamentals of Equine-assisted Learning course is the first step in completing the PATH Intl. Equine-assisted Learning (EAL) certificate program. This college level course is designed for professionals in equine-assisted services (EAS) wishing to obtain specific training and recognition for competent facilitation of EAL sessions.

The Fundamentals of Equine-assisted Learning course is comprised of 13 modules of guided education, activities, handouts and comprehension quizzes on the primary skills, known as core competencies, required to successfully and optimally facilitate EAL sessions. Each course is capped at 15 participants and is facilitated by two dedicated faculty members over a 13-week period. The faculty will do regular check-ins to make sure that participants are moving through the course at a pace of one module per week and will also prompt discussion among the group. Course participants will also be enrolled in the EAL Course Group on PATH Intl.'s Member Connection platform, through which they encouraged to network and discuss what they are learning from the course content and equine challenge activities.

Course expectations:

1) You must be 18 years of age or older to complete this course.

2) This course should be considered equivalent to an intensive, college-level course.

3) Participants are expected to progress through the course at the pace of one module per week, dedicating a minimum of 4 hours each week in order to keep up with the pace of the course--2-3 hours to watch the recorded lectures and 1 additional hour to complete the weekly assignments.

4) Weekly access to equines is required. Many modules include "Equine Challenge" assignments that require conducting various types of activities with an equine partner to complete. As the course progresses, participants will also need to incorporate 1 to 3 other people in their equine challenges to apply concepts taught in the course.

5) Several modules include online discussions among the cohort as part of the module assignments. Timely, interactive participation is essential for all course participants to be able to fulfill the requirements to complete discussion assignments on time.

Transfer Policy:
If there is a need for a course participant to transfer to another course, there will be a transfer fee of $200 for members and $225 for non-members in order to complete this process. A request to transfer will need to be sent to the PATH Intl. Education Department at education@pathintl.org and will be at the department's discretion as to which course you will be able to transfer to if the request is granted.

NOTE: Completion of this course and the certificate program DOES NOT constitute a certification in EAL. Completion of the online course followed by documentation of 60 clock hours of EAL facilitation (including 30 hours of group AND 30 hours of one-on-one facilitation) will result in completion of the PATH Intl. EAL certificate program. Individuals who complete the EAL certificate program will become eligible to pursue PATH Intl. EAL facilitator micro credentials in one or all of the EAL specialties. The specialties include education, personal development, organizations and mounted EAL. EAL certificate holders that complete the requirements for all 4 specialty micro credentials will be recognized as a PATH Intl. Master Equine-Assisted Learning facilitator. Micro credential requirements include documenting relevant experience hours, video demonstrations and the compilation of a portfolio as evidence of competency. More information about the specialty micro credentials can be found at https://pathintl.org/certification/equine-assisted-learning/.
