Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor Application


Thank you for your interest in pursuing PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI)® certification. The PATH Intl. CTRI certification is a voluntary, entry-level credential for individuals in the equine-assisted services (EAS) profession who provide riding instruction of therapeutic value to people with disabilities.


This application is for those wishing to become certified for the first time OR for formerly certified PATH Intl. Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructors who let their certification lapse.


To apply, you must:

1. be 18 years or older,

2. hold current adult and child CPR and first aid certifications (100% online courses are acceptable), and

3. have completed the PATH Intl. Standards course and exam within the last year.

Steps to apply:

Step 1: Purchase the application. NOTE: CTRI application fees are valid for ONE YEAR from date of purchase, non-refundable and non-transferable.

Step 2: As part of your application submission, you will need to upload your video demonstration of riding instruction and communication of riding skills and a copy of your photo ID to the secure PATH Intl. Dropbox. Click here and follow the steps provided by Dropbox to upload your video and ID.

Step 3: Complete submission of your application materials by either clicking on the link in your purchase receipt or from the confirmation email with link. All five parts of the application must be submitted at the same time. Only complete applications will be accepted.

Once all of your application materials have been submitted, please allow 60 days for review and confirmation of whether your application has been approved.

Already certified?

If you are a currently certified PATH Intl. therapeutic riding instructor and need to renew your membership and/or certification, please return to your Profile page to:

1. Renew your membership via the “Individual Memberships” tab in the left-hand menu, and 

2. Submit your compliance or certification maintenance form via the “Credentialing > My Certifications" tab in the upper horizontal menu.
